Royal Links Golf Club

Amongst the many desert courses in the area is this tribute to some of the most famous courses in Great Britain and a testament to how difficult links-style can be.  A par-72, 7,029 yard course where the first hole sets the tone for the round.  This challenging par-4, inspired by No. 10 at Royal Lytham, winds around trees in a tight dogleg and has three deep bunkers that guard an elevated green.

Painted Desert Golf Course

When it opened, Painted Desert was one of the first courses in the area to really take advantage of the surrounding desert to penalize golfers who missed the fairways and greens.  Today, this Jay Morrish design will still challenge without breaking the bank.  Don't be fooled by the subtle mounding and sloping.  Here accuracy is everything, particularly on holes three and nine.

TPC at The Canyons

On this course, the shots are as high-stakes as gambling in one of the many casinos.  Packed with desert designs, The Canyons is considered the truest of all desert-style courses in Vegas.  What puts it above the pack is how it makes use of every possible natural device on the course, including trees, ravines, rocky canyons and a lake.

Boulder Creek Golf Club

Owned and operated by nearby Boulder City, this newer course offers 27 holes and uses a variety of design techniques to challenge golfers.  Precision is key with the oasis, arroyo and desert-style holes.  White sand bunkers, palm trees and split fairways on this 7,600-yard course make it both a challenge and pleasure to play.

The Wolf Course at Las Vegas Paiute Resort

With the longest track in the state (7,604 yards), this Pete Dye course has a serious bite.  Designed to host professional tournaments, challenges are not lacking at The Wolf.  One of the signature holes, No. 8, features a 40-foot deep waste bunker alongside the green and Dye of course sloped the green toward that bunker.  No. 15 features a famous Pete Dye island green, but unlike the 150 yard No. 17 at Sawgrass, this hole plays 182 yards from the championship tees.  This is definitely not your leisurely round of golf.
