If you ask local golf fanatics which course is their favorite, you're likely to hear Bear Slide Golf Club. And for good reason--it has often been voted one of the best public courses in the state. It's known for dense trees and heaving fairways and the final two holes are the toughest tees of the entire course.

This is one of Dye's underrated designs that is open and forgiving off the tee. It's undulating greens will challenge players of all levels and the final three holes are considered one of the best closing stretches in the area. Dye himself said that the 18th hole is one of his top 10 finishing holes he's ever designed.

Located just 20 minutes outside of the city, Purgatory bills itself as "Your gateway to golfing heaven." The course has a myriad of devilish details including numerous bunkers, making it a memorable and fun course.

Eagle Creek consists of two 18-hole courses that were renovated by Pete Dye and is considered the premier municipal complex. The natural parkland setting offers wetlands, animal habitats and rolling terrain. While the Pines Course is friendly to golfers of all skill levels, the links-style Sycamore course is more challenging.

Located in neighboring Caramel, Prairie View boast more major awards than any other course in the Indianapolis area. It has sculpted, generous fairways and is teeming with water hazards.
